Who Has the Best Rental Car Rates?

As a New Yorker I do not own a car, so I have a lot of rent. Finding the best price is something I pride in. This article compares the average prices of major rent a car companies. Rental prices vary from place to place, but I have found that some companies are always cheaper than others, no matter where you are renting. This article compares prices and simply do not take into account a difference. I gave five-star ratings of the best value.

Dollar Car Rental

Best Value (Rated Five Stars)

Save up to 10% are available from the membership and rewards program, plus discount codes are available from several sources on-line. The same company owns the Dollar and Thrifty, and their price structure is very similar. Standard rental prices are among the cheapest in the industry. Although additional discounts are generally not more than 10%, a low standard rental rates make dollar rent of great value.

Budget Car Rental

Best Value (Rated Five Stars)

Save up to 30% are available from the membership and rewards program, plus discount codes are available from several sources on-line. Budget standard rental rates are below the industry average. That plus the availability of large discount rental budget makes a great value.

Enterprise Car Rental

Good Value (Rated four stars)

Various discounts are available, but not as much as you can find some of the other companies. Enterprise Holdings Company, National and Alamo. Enterprise seems to be the cheapest of the three. Standard rental rates are slightly above the Thrifty and Dollar, placing the company at the lower end of industry. Additional discounts can also be found, so renting from Enterprise is relatively good value.

Thrifty Car Rental

Good Value (four stars)

Save up to 10% are available from the membership and rewards program, plus a number of discount codes available online sources. The same company owns the Dollar and Thrifty, Thrifty, but it seems to be a bit expensive. I stress the word little. Standard rental prices are among the cheapest in the industry. I rate Thrifty with only four stars because the coupon discounts to smaller parties, but the Thrifty rent a good overall value.

Avis Rental Car

Good Value (three stars)

Save up to 25% are available from the membership and rewards programs. Discount codes are readily available from several online and offline sources. Avis standard rental prices are about average for the industry, but the availability of additional discounts from Avis rental makes a good value.

Zip car

Good Value (three stars)

Often, the landlord may also qualify for a discounted price. ZIP car is great value for owners who need to rent for less than one day. If you only need a few hours rates can be as low as $ 7 per hour. Daily and weekend rental rates are competitive with major car rental companies.

Alamo Car Rental

a low value (two stars)

Save up to 15% are available from the membership and rewards programs. Discount codes are available to a number of online sources. Ownership Company Holdings, Alamo is focused on providing value for leisure renters. Even with this focus of standard rental prices are still above the industry average. Whatever deals you are able to get, renting from Alamo is generally not as good value rental from Budget, Thrifty, Enterprise, Dollar or Avis.

National Car Rental

the lowest value (Star)

Save up to 15% are available from the membership and rewards programs. Discount codes are available to a number of online sources. Also, the company owned by Holdings, the national focus more on business owners. Standard rental prices are above the industry average. Like the Alamo, regardless of the job you're able to get, rent from National in general is not as good value rental from Budget, Thrifty, Enterprise, Dollar or Avis.

Hertz Rental Car

the lowest value (Star)

Save up to 15% and more are available from several members, awards programs and discount codes. Hertz focuses on business and leisure renters, but better value and benefits seem to be geared more towards the business end. Hertz standard rental rates are most expensive in the industry, so if you are a business or preferred customers rent from Hertz is generally not as good as the rental value of the other.
